One Nite in Mongkok - Still Lost in Time

One Nite in Mongkok is a sequel of Writer-Director Derek Yee's pursuit of melancholy. In an interview, he confessed that the ending was slightly adjusted to efface, though failed to, the touch of sorrow prevailing in most of his products. Audiences may hope for the revival of characters in Lost in Time (2003), but this time, the heroine Dan-dan (a Mainland prostitute), played by Cecilia Cheung, is nothing less than a tragedienne – in 2003 she lost her husband, and in 2004 her fake optimism behind her poignant self simply hurts.

Jiang Hu - The Revealment of the Faceless

In Jiang Hu, the most dramatic scene should be the shot when Andy Lau was being chopped by a faceless killer. His blood was washed away by the rain, or maybe he didn't bleed at all. I believe that this killer is indeed the embodiment of Writer-Director Wong Ching Po and other movie producers of the same generation.

I think that kind of strong Hong Kong style in movie should be the obstacle for audiences from different cultures. Meanwhile, It also gains a wide acceptance in mainland China by its overflowing absurd dialogue with tearful nonsense humor custom. What is the difference? How can audiences distinguish the truth or the false, and to judge the good from the bad?
