對於溝口健二的長鏡頭美學,早已有很多名家著書立說。在本地,陳輝揚曾於八十年代後期寫過一篇〈濃出悲外,俯鑑塵寰──溝口健二作品選評〉(收錄於《夢影錄》,1992,香港三聯出版),對溝口的藝術有非常透徹的領悟。他說:「歌舞伎的舞台風格,遠承安平時代『雅』之感性,經德川初期,衍化為禪宗啟發的寂』之美學,至德川中後期,普及文化以『粹』之感性為。《殘菊》的自然醇厚,正深植於這三種文化感性的融,成為創立日本電影風格最重要的電影之一。」今次重看《殘菊物語》(1939),最吸引的便是那幾場歌舞伎的戲。

2046 - Putting an End or Back To the Square One?

Train: a figure which links temporal motifs up. Leslie Cheung in Days of Being Wild (1990) died in a train which kept going on – a metaphoric vehicle which shows the intersection of life and death, and the temporal contradiction that journey (of life) is still going on even if it's somewhat stopped by the desition. The precedent occurrence of the train sets out the beginning of 2046 when Takuya Kimura, serving as the alter ego of Tony Leung, is going to take a train to leave 2046 (a legendary place where time stops and being thought as a Xanadu).

2046 (non-Cannes version) - Why It's No Longer Touching to Me

The fact that 2046 became the sequel of previous products explaining Director Wong's fancy for the 60s is not the reason for its loss of charisma. I tried to seek what I want in the metaphors: Chow Mo-wan and Su Li-zhen's room where they met turned into a void mise-en-scene in a futuristic novel, that its fake but the eternal existence kills all room for imagination.
