How long for you to be Thrown Down?

Pessimistic, raffish, pretentious or besotted – whatever you name it, this character is simply an eternal loser. Indeed it's rare to have these kinds of characters in movies. And Louis Koo is such an exception.

杜琪峯又有新作,不出一個月,隨《大事件》之後,來了《柔道龍虎榜》。杜琪峯創作的巔峰期,持續經年,而當中每一部電影都言之有物,實在是一種難度,彷彿對三數年仍未有新作的明星導演當頭棒喝。

Although most of his products were accomplished in 2003, Herman Yau is surely the most productive movie director in 2004.



這個邱禮濤真爆炸

踏進2004年,生產力最旺盛的香港導演肯定是邱禮濤──雖然他今年不少的作品,都早於去年完成。在我們的戲言中,都不下一次提到他已成了廿一世紀的「王晶」,意思是作為一熟練的工匠,他的手藝已成了行內的專業保證,確保了風格及成本之間有一定的相應掛鉤,而不會出現太大的偏頗。

 



Prince de la Bun: Being Hopeless and Pessimistic

In the end of My Live as McDull, the grown-up McDull, with his briefcase, loafs in an ordinary street like a zombie. It is a strong reflection of "post-1997 psychic crisis" in many Hong Kong people. He also lies on the Cheung Chau Bay bare to the waist, winning the identification among the middle and lower class of local society. And the film's sequel, McDull, Prince de la Bun, is an even more ambitious product. The love between mother and child and the sense of being abandoned of Hong Kong people give an insight into the sophisticated question of existence and dream.

For Record - 2046, the Cannes Version

2046 opens with Takuya Kimura's monologue in Japanese (asking Faye Wong to go away with him), which turns out to be a prologue (we later know that he is the lead in Tony Leung's sci-fi "2046", and his alter-ego), and the man the story kicks off with Tony Leung's voiceover. And the time is 1962. He is about to go back to Hong Kong from Singapore, and he asks Gong Li to go with him.



特稿:康城版《2046》──立此存照

2046》在康城作世界首映前夕,已鬧出滿城風雨。因拷貝遲到而取消了兩場日間放映,連累其他電影的放映時間也要作出相應調動,可能是康城有史以來所僅見。影片結果大熱倒灶,頒獎禮上空手而回,未嘗不可視作變相的懲罰,王家衛這回無疑是去得太盡了。
