Lost in Time -- Hong Kong People Really Have Lost in Time!?

The Hong Kong of Lost in Time is a far cry from the Hong Kong of the 90s, when Love without End was filmed. The change in general livelihood of the past decade has not escaped director Derek Yee, and his focus has shifted from the affluent middle class yuppies to the hard-hit middle-aged men who have to start from scratch again. This major shift has become a major trend in local cinema of recent years.

《無間道II》以港產類型為傲

《無間道》是類型電影。它是港產電影鍾情的警匪臥底類型,但以國際級數的製作來包裝。它是香港人的驕傲,因為它拍出荷里活的水準。

《無間道II》也是類型電影。它回顧兼綜合了香港二十年來的江湖類型史,並「借外諷內」,以《教父》的形式甚至場面來抒發對香港當下處境的感慨。它是西方港產片迷的驕傲,因為它夠膽挑戰《教父》。

說到底,就是各取所需。我們要人家的製作水準,人家要我們的破格魅力。總之不要認為抄╱似╱靈感來自╱致敬就一定不好,最重要是用得其所。




《無間道II》化限制為優勢

《無間道》有的是商業視點的成功,然無論敘事技巧、人物著墨、主題舖陳以至氣魄視野,《無間道II》遠超其上,而同時匹配得體。

兩者雖同屬類型片,但創作人在《無間道II》駕馭類型片的能耐上,明顯得心應手得多。不僅上趟被人詬病的劇本沙石盡去,而且場面處理大刀闊斧,經營風兩欲來的 suspense 張力:運用平行剪接的蒙太奇(劉健明見 board 和黃志誠被內部調查、四大家族和韓琛泰國遇弒)將時空連接加強對比,都用得爽朗明快;異曲同工的連串抒情兼敘事的鏡頭插入簡直屬神來之筆(三叔吹口琴、韓琛在酒店中等候作污點證人等),更遑論,大場面的調度,簡潔有力,都自成一格(兩場大牌檔警倪對峙戲,往往以靜止人物作心理空間的特寫)。這都起了以靜制動,渲染氣氛之效果。




《無間道II》──久違了的悲劇情懷

「命無間,受苦無間」──悲劇英雄

未有掌握命運的天台之前,有無間行者的海灘。

為了救在香港面臨殺身之禍的太太,韓琛將放在檯面的槍頭逆轉,把命運交託泰國朋友,從此搭上這條船。「那槍打不死你,我哋就係拍檔,係要咁盡。」

即接下一場黃Sir家。「來拉我?」「若果你打算去殺倪永孝,我就一定拉你。」「咁即係冇偈傾啦。」下樓梯那一刻,還相信自己就是法律,一架車爆炸之後,還可以相信甚麼?

一個為情,一個因罪咎感,雙雙同時墮進無間。




PTU - Johnnie To and His World with No Heroes

Quite many people, after watching PTU, say that they have reservations with the "hero" image as portrayed in the film. In their attempt to help Sergeant Lo (played By Lam Suet) to recover his lost gun, the PTU, led by Simon Yam and Raymond Wong, not only abuse their authority and destroy evidence of misconduct, but also disregard the safety of brethrens "in the same uniform". Po Fung calls them "dangerous heroes", and Shek Kei, quite disapprovingly, says it is "not a laudable heroic cop film".
